Story Time!

Nanowrimo is over and due, for once, to circumstances out of my control vs. laziness, I was not able to finish. I'm pretty confident that I could have turned it out this year, but we'll never know, will we? There were virtually no updates to the blog this time around either which probably contributed to my higher word count.

I'm putting off the rest of the 50k for awhile. I don't feel like working on Dane & Libby's continued adventures in murder and art world mayhem at the moment. They feel like lame fascimiles of real work, pain and tragedy. I realize their tone isn't actually off, they are working through a standard murder mystery just fine. I'm the one who is off. Regardless, I can't deal with their story right now. Instead I've been drawn back to the world of Robin Bee, my failed nanowrimo effort from 2008.

I find myself thinking about how to rework that story properly all the time- while I'm driving, packing lunches, daydreaming at my desk. There are elements in it that I would love to see brought together the right way, I just haven't been able to figure it out. Unlike Dane & Libby, Robin Bee's world isn't real, but a geniune escape which is obviously the reason I've been mentally returning to it. I'm not completly lacking in self-awareness. For Christmas I bought my kids' sitter a diamond star pendant that I nearly bought myself because it reminded me so stongly of one of the characters. I ordered a lavendar lemonade at a resturant the other day (despite the fact that hate lavendar) because lavendar soda is served at Hazel's Inn in my very rough manuscript. I slow down as I cross the bridge over the river everyday and try to imagine what it would look like to Robin as he runs through the North Wood with Fin Marsh.

I'll be away for the holidays and am pretty sure I'll have time to do some writing while I'm gone. We'll see.
