4,200: Gimme a minute!

The Pilot G2.  Each time I see the minis I buy them, afraid that they'll stop making them one day. That thought process is how you become a hoarder.  Of smaller then average pens, at least.

I'm workin' on the word count.  Keep your pants on!  It is going a bit slower then I would have liked, true, but a lot less stress is piling up for November then in years past which bodes well.

I'm behind. I know. There is no need to remind me. I'd like to catch up before Friday, but I make no promises so keep your expectations in check, please.

I remember reading once, a long time ago, that you could never name a character Simon because you would end up with the illusion-busting phrase, "Simon said" all over your manuscript or a bunch of tortured sentences.  Or a character who never speaks. I do wish I'd recalled that tidbit a few weeks ago.

Microsoft Word still has that "replace all" tool, right?

Nanowrimo 2011: Why not?

I need this typewriter.

All the old posts were annoying me so I've removed them. I really don't need to see the evidence of 7 years of failure each time I want to update my word count.

Anyway! Woo-hoo! Let's get excited for Nanowrimo 2011!

This year's attempt is a mild sci-fi story because, well, why not? The tentative title is "The Diplomat's Peace". It is about a young man named Oliver Mollat who has been training to be a diplomat, but tragically discovers he's not 100% human when his mother dies of an alien-specific virus endemic to the galaxy. Banned from the life he was to lead, Oliver must take refuge among those mutated by inoculation against the virus and those actively attempting to undermine human dominance.

My goal, besides finishing which is pretty bold of me given my track record, will be to write in a briefer, less descriptive style. Typewriter style is what I like to call it. It seems to suit the subject and it'll be good practice.

Wish me luck!
